The Legend of The Mystical Ninja (1991, (Ganbare Goemon: Yukihime Kyūshutsu Emaki) Gameplay 2022)
3The Legend of The Mystical Ninja is an Action-Adventure RPG that mixes Platform elements also. It was released in 1991 and is the first game in the Goemon Series of games. The game was Developed and Published by Konami ,and received critical acclaim back then being rated on of the best games for the system.
STORY: 15/20
Goemon decides to investigate some old ruins where some strange occurrences are taking place. A ghost that turns out to be a cat offers money to the greedy Goemon to investigate some other task that leads him all over Japan in search of her boss and some mysterious gang.
GRAPHICS: 20/20
The game still holds up today graphically, very bright and cartoony. Your characters are extremely well drawn and even the vast array of enemies look great. Bosses are very well animated and look great also. The cutscenes are very well done and look great, set the scenes for the story well, and work well.
SOUND: 20/20
The game's OST is great, the Japanese themed tracks are good and set the tone for the area used in. Sound effects are really good, for me didn't get boring so I didn't feel the need to shut the sound off.
GAMEPLAY: 15/20
The gameplay is set in chapters and they are each set out in 2 distinct ways, 1st is usually exploring a town/dungeon area in the traditional top-down RPG style, then the second half is a platform style where you just get to the end of the area. There's plenty of mini-games to play along your journey, and many shops to buy things from. You can upgrade your items and equipment by buying upgrades, and even get powerups to your weapons as you kill the enemy. The gameplay in my opinion does get boring after a few chapters as nothing new is really introduces other than story.
SYSTEMS: 15/20
The usual stuff, shops, action battle system, item upgrade systems, a skill judo system that allows you and the other guy to learn skills be it them looking the same for both characters, one of which is a mount for faster movement. There is more but can't think off the top of my head right now.
OVER ALL: 85/100
I personally don't get why these Goemon games are liked so much but this one does seem to have some good points that I enjoyed, other than all the dying. Would I recommend this game now? maybe. That's all I can really say about this game other than I personally wasn't impressed that much with it as an RPG.
