Lufia & The Fortress of Doom is a Jrpg for the Super Nintendo/Famicom, released in 1993 in both NA and JP. The game in Japan is known as Estpolis Denki. The game was Developed by Neverland, and Produced by Taito.

STORY: 20/20
In a time when evil beings ruled the planet, known as The Sinistrals, misery, death, and relentless attacks by monsters hounded the citizens of the world. A legend spread throughout the world of four heroes who would one day rise and free the planet of The Sinistrals. Ninety nine years later the world was at peace but whispers of monsters once again rising from the stories of old are spreading and the World summons four new heroes.

GRAPHICS: 18/20
The game's graphics are excellent considering it was a SNESS/SFC game from 1993. Very bright, colourful and very well drawn the world looks alive and vibrant. Monsters all look really nice and the main cast of characters look great too. Animations of spells and attacks all look nice and very well animated for monsters, bosses, and your team. Menu designs graphically are very simplistic in design and look okay but I feel they could have looked better.

SOUND: 20/20
This game has one of the best OSTs i've heard on the system, there's plenty of different tracks that suit every area used in. The game's sound effects are nice, all suit the times when used in battles, or out and about in areas around the game's world. I don't think it's within my top 10 favourite SNES/SFC OSTs, but certainly within the Top 20.

GAMEPLAY: 14/20
Lufia has the same standard of gameplay compared to other SNES/SFC games in the genre, explore, battle monsters and bosses, go from point A to point B, talk to a few NPCs and move on after the story progresses. The game is quite linear in the sense moving the story forward. One thing with this game is the encounter rate for battles is dire, especially when inside dungeons and caves, this sometimes makes the game seem like its dragging on.

SYSTEMS: 12/20
The game has it's usual systems, exploration, menu systems, save system, etc but don't really have any other additional systems to make the game stand out in any other way. The only system really that has anything that makes the game stand out is the way the command menu works within battles and how the battles look. The battle command menu is in the form of a cross and you hold the direction and then press a button to activate that command button. The battles themselves would use the maps background and overlay pictures on screen of the monsters and the battle's HUD.

OVER ALL: 84/`00
Honestly, this is a game series that needs to be played, it's definitely one of those classic RPGS that shows off what the genre on the system is all about. DO I recommend it now..? absolutely.
