The Level 1 Shortcut in Castlevania (NES) - A Wild Glitch Appears! #shorts
3,426In Castlevania for the NES, there's a super easy shortcut you can take to skip the sewer section of the first level. All it requires is a damage boost exploit, and you can save a whole lot of time.
After entering the door that appears after the candle with the Rosary in it, the game will transition from Stage 01 to Stage 02 (the game considers certain sections of the same level to be different "stages"). And typically in Stage 02 you would descend the bottom staircase to head into this underground sewer setting where the fishmen will harass you. Then you would travel through this annoying section of the level before you can proceed to that annoying Giant Bat boss.
But you can skip the entire sewer section with a well-timed jump onto the far end of a flying bat. Simply stand on top of the stairs above the hidden wall meat, and wait for a bat to fly your way. If you can manage to have this bat damage boost you onto the next platform, you can ignore the sewer part altogether. This technique is sometimes called the bat boost.
It's not so much of a glitch, but rather an exploit since damage boosting is just taking advantage of an intended game mechanic...
BUT this technique is great for a speedrun or something.
