Every summer movie season has it's fair of blockbusters and bombs. And when it comes to bombs, one of the biggest was Disney's The Lone Ranger, which could cost the studio up to 150 million dollars. But why did this movie do so poorly at the box office? Johnny Depp and producer Jerry Bruckheimer finally speak out about the box office failure that was The Lone Ranger. According to the LA Times, Depp believes the low numbers, which are now a domestic total of 87 million dollars, can be attributed to poor reviews, which he thinks were written seven to eight months before the film was released. Bruckheimer piggy-backed on this sentiment, saying, "I think they were reviewing the budget, not reviewing the movie." Did the critics have it out for The Lone Ranger a little too soon? Apparently, Armie Hammer thinks so, as he believes American critics wrote their review when the movie was shut down the first time in 2011 when Disney pulled the plug partially due to the ginormous budget. The movie ultimately cost 250 million dollars when the studio decided to revive the project, only to re-coop a fraction of that when it was released in July. The Lone Ranger opens in the UK on Friday, and has already made 88 million dollars in foreign markets, but what do you think about the American critics?
