The Man That Could EASILY DESTROY Diablo
Which simple human did the Prime Evils fear above all others due to their unseen power?
As you know, The Prime Evils would inhabit bodies to hold physical form in the realm of Sanctuary, due to the World Stones interference. As creative lead, Chris Metzen would state 17:33
However, there were ways ordinary mean could repel demons, such as King Leorics will & being strong enough he would ward off Diablo's attempt at control. Unfortunately, At the cost of his own sanity
or the priest, Khalim of the Zhakarum faith in Kurast. Who's will in life was strong enough to resist even the Lord of Hatred's possession & although in retribution, Mephisto's dark council, ripped Khalims body asunder & spread said pieces across the land. It becomes apparent that there was an element of rightful fear from Mephistor. As Khalim'swill was so pure, that the hero of Diablo 2 would create a mace, Khalims will, out of his very organs, which was powerful enough to shatter Mephistos compelling orb, exposing him & his council in his durance of hate.
However, a will is not enough. The reason why both Diablo, who targeted the Arch Bishop Lazuras & Mephisto targeted the Que Hargen in Kurast, beyond the simple pleasure of profanity was due to fear of the power of faith.
Congruently. a man of strong will coupled with faith were extreme threats to the lord of Terror, especially before they could shed their human host for their fully powerered demonic form. But why?
In Diablo 1's cut content, we learn that there was a Priest named Tremaine of the Zakarujm faith, who freed a man from the grasp of demonic possession. As Pepin the healer states.
And seeing how the original games Zhakarum symbology followed christianity much closer in aesthetic & with the cross apparent. It makes sense. A local priest of high faith could perform exoricisms, literally ripping demons, even prime evils in their weakened state, from their snug fleshy coccoon of a human host, before they could regain their strength on Sanctuary.
Unfortuantey this plot line was not explicity stated or pursued openly in Diablo 1. Perhaps because it would make ripping the soul stone from the warrior & the exercising Diablo far easier at the culmination of the game. But it makes sense why the warrior was searching for his salvation with the aid of priests in Kurast, to the east... Always, the east.
