The Most Important Game You've Never Played (And Never Should)
There are many games that have come out and been landmark titles for their respective genres. But no game is as single-handedly important to the entire industry as a whole as System Shock. The game is nearly 30 years old now with a remake coming out soon (maybe), and is still one of, if not the single most influential games ever created. So what’s with the title of the video? Well, a lot of people haven’t played System Shock before because it’s old, and most people have this weird notion that old games are just bad by default. And on top of that, I don’t really recommend that you play System Shock for reasons that we’ll get into very shortly.
System Shock is a 1994 first-person action-adventure video game developed by LookingGlass Technologies and published by Origin Systems. It was directed by Doug Church with Warren Spector serving as producer. The game is set aboard a space station in a cyberpunk vision of the year 2072. Assuming the role of a nameless security hacker, the player attempts to hinder the plans of a malevolent artificial intelligence called SHODAN.
