Professional grade, marathon level running shoes--or supershoes are they're also lovingly referred to--are generally flashy, over-the-top and loud, to, in some weird way of thinking, show off the engineering that went into them.

This here, the Asics Metaspeed Sky+, is the rare exception. Other than the half-ripe lemon colorway, this shoe has an unstated and unassuming design that almost goads you into thinking it's just another pair of sports shoes.

But there's more to it than meets the eye.
