I present to you "Forever Blue," Track 12 of The Music of Mega Man X9.com (www.megamanx9.com). This medley of character and/or title themes was originally composed in FamiTracker for a fan game by X9 member and spriter, Kirby Pink, which will be a crossover game allowing you to play as Mega Man, Mega Man X, Zero, MegaMan Volnutt, Vent & Aile, Lan & MegaMan.EXE, and Geo & Omega-Xis, with overlapping storylines.

However, as I began to work on this piece, I was reminded again of the recent cancelation of Mega Man Legends 3, and before that, Mega Man Universe, which have left a stigma on the franchise's reputation. The largest fan backlash in the 31 years of gaming followed the cancelation of the Legends 3 project. Fans of the Mega Man franchise, nay, of Capcom itself, were given ill treatment as their demand for characters for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 were almost completely ignored, even for the Marvel side. Mega Man X and Venom, the top fan picks for possible DLC characters, were never included. Not even in the unprecedentedly early sequel, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Rumors began to spread of Capcom trying to kill off the Mega Man franchise and alienate its fans. False claims of Mega Man cosplayers being kicked out at Comic-Con and of the Protomen being sent a cease-and-desist order from Capcom were spread, fueled by numbers of enraged fans.

In contrast, rumors of hope also began to spread. The American development room for Legends 3 remained open. A facebook group called "100,000 Strong for Legends 3" was born to help bring the game back into production. Faithful followers could join the development room on Capcom Unity and become a Servbot, to help gather enough support for the game and sign a petition. Several other methods of showing support developed. Jeff Janes, the founder and admin of http://www.megamanx9.com, created a central hub for the Legends 3 supporters, with links to the different sites. You can visit this central hub here: http://www.legends3.com

However, even as over 40,000 people have already joined the facebook group and numbers of Servbots have become active, Capcom of America, at least, still recycles its outdated PR announcements, stating that the project has ceased completely and that its developers have been assigned to other projects.

But what does this mean for the game? Is hope truly lost? The fanbase has not given up. Until a straightforward answer as to why the project was canceled is revealed from Capcom of Japan, and if there are any plans to revive the project there, the fanbase will not be satisfied.

But aside from Legends 3, what does this ongoing war between the fans, the consumers, and the company mean for the Mega Man franchise as a whole? Capcom has said that Mega Man is an important "brand" to them. A "brand," huh? Does this mean we are doomed to only receive cheap, 1-month creation, lazy, retro-styled, DLC, Classic series games (Mega Man 9 & 10... 11, 12, 13, Infinity)? Are fans of the other series doomed to get nothing but re-releases of a game they've played enough times already as downloads or bundle packs (Mega Man X, Mega Man X2, Maverick Hunter X)? Now that Keiji Inafune has left Capcom to start COMCEPT, will we get nothing but zombies and fighting games? Will Mega Man become a Left 4 Dead rip-off? Will it become a new Street Fighter?

The fate of this popular franchise remains to be seen. Things look grim. But maybe... just maybe... there might be hope. Even in this dark era of commercialized gaming, we (the fans) must show our support for the Mega Man franchise. We must show Capcom that we desire more than what fits the market. We desire something new.

This medley captures the essence of the franchise, and represents us, the fanbase. Not just for Classic. Not just for X. Not just for Legends. But for the entire franchise. We, the fans, are keeping this multi-series gaming icon from hitting the spikes. We are an imaginative and creative force. We are a force of gaming passion. From the supporters of Mega Man X9.com to the supporters 100,000 Strong for Legends 3... From Classic to Star Force; from Battle Network to ZX...

We are
Forever Blue
