The New Update BROKE DOOM Eternal
2,127Update 1 was just released for DOOM Eternal, bringing with it Empowered Demons, the Echelon leveling system... and Denuvo Anti-Cheat software. Denuvo has BROKEN the game, bringing with it a slew of performance issues from frame dips, to slow downs, to straight up hard crashes.
This NEEDS to be fixed ASAP.
Some quick notes:
1. The Denuvo Anti-Cheat software is a different program than the Denuvo Anti-Piracy DRM software. The anti-cheat is known to have "kernel level" access to your computer, essentially meaning it has complete access to your computer to check for files. I don't know what to make of it. At surface level it terrifies me. But many other programs I already use, work similarly. So make what you will out of that information.
2. I forgot that I did encounter a couple bugs early on in my playthroughs, those bugs are listed out in my original review for the game. BUT they were all odd one-off bugs that have never been replicated, and they WERE NOT tied to performance issues. Until this update, the game has run perfectly and has never once crashed, slowed down, or stuttered.
3. One further correction: In the video I said I ran the game on Ultra, I actually ran the game on Ultra Nightmare, which is ABOVE Ultra (and above Nightmare), with no issues. I have been running the game at maxed graphic settings with no issue (before the update). Quick clarification.
4. Hugo Martin himself has commented on the DOOM Facebook group saying that the Marauder HAS NOT been nerfed, and his balancing HAS NOT been touched. Any changes to AI behavior are either purely coincidental, or a bug. Could even be placebo considering all the other issues tbh.
