It was announced in February 2020 that the ‘Need for Speed’ series was being handed back to Criterion, after developer Ghost Games worked on the series for the last few years. It was later revealed during Electronic Arts’ earnings call in November 2020 that the next game in the series would be released during the company’s 2022 fiscal year (so sometime between April 1, 2021, and April 1, 2022.)
