In this video the main star is Icy Box IB-3805-C31, a nice enclosure from Raidsonic which supports up to 5 of 3.5 inch disks and a total speed of 10Gbit/s.

The speed test was done with 5 x 4TB Seagate Ironwolf NAS disks and went up to 1.1GB/s. Of course, you arrive at this speed if you have at least USB 3.1. The test in this video was done via thunderbolt 3 port which is way faster (up to 40 Gbps).

I have used as speed test tool gdd (Gnu dd) because I needed visual progress and dd that comes with macos does not have this. Gdd was installed via macports.

Another very nice feature I did not mention in the video is the capability of reading S.M.A.R.T. data. The information available via smartctl tool is full, unaltered, same as if the disk is attached directly (via sata cable for example).

I included also an experience with a defective product that I had to return.

PS: these are personal thoughts of a product I bought.
PS2: This is similar to Sabrent 5 bay DS-SC5B

Curious how I use this one for ZFS Raid with dual SSD as cache? Check this link: https://youtu.be/NUrrsLXZQks
