The Oregon Trail Full Game No Death No Commentary / Pew Pew Hoe
The Oregon Trail was the first video game I ever played back in 1987. I had been put into a GATE Program at school and they stuck me in a room and had me play The Oregon Trail. I was happy because, ya know... fuck school and video games are WAY more fun.
It didn't take long to get me hooked. I loved The Oregon Trail and it made me a gamer for life.

With everything else already said I'll tell you my strategy to win. One I don't always follow to the letter but one that can be used to form a basic strategy.
First, keep in my supplies become more expensive the farther along the trail you journey. meaning something will cost much more at Fort Boise as apposed to Independence Missouri.
That said you should fill up with most things before you leave Independence Missouri. With 1 exception. Food.
Typically you begin the game with $800. But its randomized and you can start with a different amount. That being said, make sure you get 20 Ox, 99 Boxes of bullets, 3 extra Wheels, Axels, and Tongues, and at least 5 sets of Clothing. If you can. Lastly you need to buy food, which you'll notice is cheap af. BUT, fuck that, cause food is free af. Well, it'll cost you a single bullet. When you shoot something in the face and magically turn it into food. You can carry up to 2000 lbs of food but I recommend you don't take more than 300-400lbs before you leave Independence Missouri.
Ok so now that you're loaded up, when should you leave? The Oregon Trail gives you the option to leave at different times. Leave too early and you'll freeze from snow. Leave top late and you won't make it in time before the next winter.
So when do you leave? As soon as possible. Fuck danger. Hahaha. Just do it. At first I always left in April rather than March, but I realized I could spend all of march hunting free food. Meaning by April, you'd be at least 200 miles into the 2000 mile Oregon Trail AND you'd have close to 2000lbs of food.
Next I'd make 2 adjustments. First, give yourself and your team a generous ration of food every day. Once you select "Generous" it's automatic everyday. In the same way, make sure you set your pace to "Grueling." This will ensure you are moving at the fastest pace, allowing you more time to sleep, rest and hunt.
Now follow these basic rules.
Make sure you keep $20 when you leave Independence Missouri.
Never let your food dip below 1000lbs. (After March)
Always make sure you have 3 spare, wheels, axels, and tongues for your wagon.
When it comes to passing rivers, pay. Pay whatever it costs.
When you come to a Fort, consider selling your extra food. (Following rule 1. Never dip below 1000lbs)
Try to keep $500 in reserves. (After March)
Only kill the food you need. (200lbs per day max)
If someone gets hurt, stop immediately. Rest for a minimum of 3 days when someone is actually hurt.
You can push your team hard until their health is poor. Once there, stop and rest back to Good health.
Lastly, just before reaching Willamette Oregon make sure you fully rest. The most points in the game come from being in "Good" shape. In other words, full health.
If you follow these basic rules, you'll get to Oregon by November and get some good points.
Note, the profession you choose also gives you points. Blacksmith is worth double points, and Farmer is worth triple. Which, I mean... duh. Cause you're going to a vacant lot right in the middle of fuck all, at the corner of not shit, and napes. Thus, farming is a helpful thing to know.
Good luck as you brave the Oregon Trail and when you hunt remember to yell, Pew Pew Hoe!
Now that I've broken all that down I've got to mention one thing. The Oregon Trail is set in North America in 1848. Let's keep in mind that the American Civil War started in 1861 meaning that while this game is taking place, Slavery is very much legal. The game does not show evidence of slavery and you even come into contact with African American settlers who seem like everyone else. This is of course, not accurate and white washes history more than a little.
