The Orla MicoPartner General Midi Module playing DOOM music
Hello friends, this tiny little module seem to be quite rare - there are not many informations to find. It seems to be a low-cost module without any controlls but volume. The Innstruments list printed on top is for composers and musicians and not for gamers. But the simplicity of the device has its charme and it is ideal for gaming - just connect it via midi calbe to your soundcard, select GM or GS in the sound setup and start gaming!
The sound is very "Rolandish" and according to some informations I found it might possibly be one of the Dreams that came with a Roland soundfont instead of the newer Cleanwave-font.
Inside the module we have a single-chip wavetable synthesizer, the Dream SAM9273M with some connectors, power- and amplifying parts around. Nothing more, noching less.
Sound is dry but pretty good in my opinion. But what do you thing? Do you prefere tiny understatement modules like this, or do you prefere the luxury midi modules by Roland or Yamaha?
The game is ID-Softwares Doom from '93, the music you pretty sure already know as it is contained even in the sharewaver version of the game. E1M1, E1M2 and E1M3.
As you can see on one picture, I (as always) recordet it directly out of the game running on my beautiful MS-DOS 6.2 486-DX2-80 machine.
Listen - enjoy - like - subscibe
Cheers,
Ernie
