A new adventure begins in The Outer Worlds.

We wake up from being in hibernation in a pod for several decades along with other colonists on a ship called the Hope. A scientist named Phineas Welles has revived me and enlists my help in assisting him with reviving the other colonists. Since the scientist's ship is damaged, the first step involves meeting a contact of his, a captain called Alex Hawthorne, in a place called Emerald Vale, on the planet of Terra 2. Unfortunately, the pod we're in crashes on top of Hawthorne, killing him instantly. Phineas suggests getting to Hawthorne's ship, but we find through the ships computer, ADA, that it has a damaged power regulator. ADA suggests going to the local town of Edgewater, to talk to the leader, Reed Tobson.

In Edgewater, we meet with several of it's inhabitants, including the town's Vicar, a man called Max, who asks us for help in getting a banned book. We also meet with Reed Tobson, who says that there is a power regulator at the Botanical Lab, a place where former Spacer's Choice workers went to after deserting Edgewater. He tells us that we can go to the geothermal plant and divert power over to Edgewater, thus allowing me to take the Botanical Lab's power regulator. He also wants us to try and convince the deserters to return to Edgewater. To provide me assistance with the geothermal plant, Reed provides us the services of the local engineer, a woman called Parvati.
