The Phantasmagoria Games and My Descent Into Madness
Phantasmagoria tends to be mentioned alongside the other classics by Sierra: King's Quest, Quest for Glory, Leisure Suit Larry, Police Quest, and Gabriel Knight. It was revolutionary for its time, and the lead designer, Roberta Williams, considers it the most challenging game of her career. It was an FMV point and click adventure game/interactive movie hybrid for the MS-DOS, that spanned 7 CDs. It's known to be a throwback to 1960s horror, dealing with the occult, and with obvious references to Stephen King.
The sequel, Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of Flesh, wasn't nearly as famous. It was designed by Lorelei Shannon, and was shot on location for the vast majority of the time, as opposed to the complete blue screen use of the first game.
The first entry is being considered a date game by today's standards, but the sequel is starting to gain a cult following. Me, a Pretentious Hipster, decided to once again explore these games, going through their journies, seeing what opinions are formed, and was hoping that no descent to madness would be caused by it. Was I successful? Find out here:
