The Polaris Slingshot is all new for 2020 ... technically. At first glance, if you see the new Slingshot from any angle other than the front, it might be hard to notice that it's been updated. The face is the only major exterior change, with most of the body being unchanged, but the interior, the chassis and the engine have all been given a pretty thorough update, and they all contribute to making the Slingshot a better car ... or motorcycle ... or autocycle ... or whatever you want to call this 3-wheeler.

A good place to start with what makes the 2020 Slingshot new is under the hood. The outgoing Slingshot was powered by a 2.4-liter GM Ecotec engine that was first introduced back in 2006 and was starting to show its age by 2019. It was the same engine that powered the likes of the Saturn Sky, the Chevy Cobalt and a handful of other GM offerings. It's not a bad engine, and it wasn't a bad fit in the Slingshot, but frankly, it was aging and didn't have a whole lot of character. Normally that wouldn't matter much, but the Slingshot has a big personality that demands an engine with character.
