Starting well intentioned movements always tend to go sour. It's a matter of too many chefs in the kitchen. At first everyone is on the same page, but "everyone" is also a small number of people. More people means more ideas, you start getting outliers that negatively impact the movement, and the media/public only care about the negativity and the drama not the positivity and progress.
