As you're introduced into Bastion, the Kyrain tell you about some of the features of your new 'existance', soon it comes the time for you to write your name and deeds in some sort of a 'Database' which contains the lives of all mortals.

The importance put in these experiences would imply they're of high value as the 'arbiter' goes through all of them and given the fact that it is based on these experiences that only a few get to go to a place like Bastion where only the most 'dutiful' of souls go, it leads us to believe there is a hidden 'purpose' in these experiences.

All of these seems to be a large game, an ungoing 'cycle' which ardenweald protects and the high commands of the shadowlands wants to see ongoing, learning and experience through the cycle without true judgement as only the worst souls go to the 'maw' and in exchange the most 'dutiful' get to become something else...

While all of this might seem like just 'Lore' and imagination, real concepts of these themes exist, of course this database is based on a known concept in ancient philosophies and modern ASC reports, this is known as the 'Akashic records'.
