The pursuit of meaningful narrative in « Frostpunk: The Last Autumn » | Alexandre Boiret | GCF 2023
"Frostpunk: The Last Autumn" sought to transpose Frostpunk’s thought-provoking narrative to a pre-apocalyptic, more relatable world. By focusing on more topical issues, such as labor and exploitation, it generated interesting discussions, both internally during development and externally upon release. Feedback showed it resonated differently for players and that, depending on their personal leanings, they interpreted the narration differently and assumed different authorial intents. What was our intent? And how much of a game’s narrative is in the eye of the beholder?
