The Quest - Battle Monsters

The ORIGINAL Platform Fighter. Before Super Smash Bros. there was Battle Monsters, created by the same folks at Scarab who gave us Survival Arts. Honestly I am still processing this game. It has traditional 2D movement like your run of the mill fighting game with dashes and jumps on the joystick, but also three additional jump buttons for hopping onto platforms, as well as two buttons for dashing forwards and backwards. These all work independently of the regular movement controls. You also only have one punch button, one kick button, and a taunt button that sometimes builds meter, but not always, and sometimes is used to trigger certain attacks and super moves. Stages have hazards that can instantly kill you, platforms to fall off of, and ring outs.
Graduating from Survival Arts' use of digitized actors, Battle Monsters has puppets or figurines scanned into the game to create characters, and they are all strange and unique. If you've ever wanted a game that has a Grappler who also throws a GIGANTIC projectile, this is the game for you.
