"I'm on a quest to play every fighting game ever, and I'm taking my friends along for the ride."

Much like how Spectral Vs. Generation (one of the earliest Quest vids) was an attempt by the Alien Challenge guys to make a Guilty Gear game, Martial Masters is their stab at Street fighter III. Even the character select screen and the lifebars emulate it. It's loosely based on a movie despite lacking the license. Not that IGS has a problem with theft via homage. Much like Third Strike, you press two buttons to throw, another two buttons to do a hop attack that crushes lows, yet another two buttons to taunt, and you play a game of careful spacing and looking for counterhits to convert into damage. In lieu of EX attacks, there is a strange mechanic where you can spend some meter to allow a spirit version of yourself to do an attack independently of you, allowing you to set up cover to move in or combo extensions. Where this all begins to fall apart is in the fact that it's a 4 button game, and all of these techniques are done with weird combinations of buttons that feature overlap and confusion.

Amusingly, This game defaults to a KOF-styled Team Battle Mode when playing against another player, and lots of attacks are wholesale stolen from Capcom games and traced over. There is character who is literally Sabertooth. It's evident that this game is a case of seeing what was cool in the competition's games and trying to throw all of those ideas into one soup for better or for worse. It doesn't help that for every really beautiful, flowing animation, there is a jank one that looks straight out of mugen.
