The Return to Freddy's 4 - Revisited
8Instead of going back to fan games of TRTF, why not go back to TRTF itself with the only TRTF game I've every played on the channel. I wanted to replay the game because I didn't know how good that old recording would be since it was one of the first games I played, but given that I couldn't find the game and that the recording actually wasn't that bad, I decided to compile nights 1-5 and display them again. I know it's not the same as actually replaying it, but since this is one of the first games on the channel, I can't imagine many have seen this series.
But anyway - TRTF 4 is definitely a game. Back when I put this on the channel in 2018, I considered TRTF 4 as one of my all-time favourite fan games, but it's no longer up there to be honest. The game is definitely my favourite in the TRTF saga (which is apparently a hot take as TRTF 3 is the overall fan favourite), as it has pretty damn good models and atmosphere with shockingly little bugs for a TRTF game, although the gameplay is quite bland - the locker is basically a mask which is bugged to an extent, and then there's a lever to spray steam on the animatronics to make them leave which can be exploited towards the end of a night to guarantee survival. The environment and animatronics definitely carry this game - the designs look so crooked and creepy, and which the environment is just red, it definitely makes the setting creepier - much creepier than that of FNaF 3 which is just bright green. The phone calls are kinda mid, the story for this game specifically is interesting, the Night 5 minigame is so stupid and I still can't understand how it made it to the final game, the Night 6 ending (which isn't featured here) sends mixed messages and is kinda disturbing, and the jumpscares are a mixed bag - most are great and the sound definitely catches you off-guard, but a lot of the animations aren't great.
Overall, this game has definitely aged the best out of the TRTF saga but is still a mixed bag - with cool models, a creepy environment, and decent jumpscares, but is limited by its gameplay and just an overall negative reputation. TRTF is definitely a series that has gone on to live in infamy in the FNaF community, and I'm not surprised at all.
