In this video, I explain in detail how to remove Sharpie or other permanent markers by using a dry erase marker. I layout the chemistry behind each type of marker and show why this technique works. Other methods to remove sharpie such as using isopropyl alcohol, ethanol, erase sponges (magic eraser), acids or lubricants. However most of those techniques can risk damaging the surface of the material. Covering the permanent marker in dry erase marker and they wiping it all away is probably the best solution available for keeping retro games and other surfaces in great shape. The chemistry covered here is based on review of various sources, if you are curious to learn more, let me know in the comments. If you like chemistry based retro gaming video, let me know what you want to see next.
