They were known as BRIXMIS - a British Army unit made up of personnel spying on the Soviet Union in post-war Germany. After the Second World War, Germany was split into four occupation zones. The east came under Russian control, while the west went under American, British and French control. Part of the agreement to divide Germany led to the creation of military liaison missions, that could travel into enemy territory. However, in reality, BRIXMIS (the British Commander-in-Chief’s Mission to the Soviet Forces) became spies.
In this video, former spies set foot in what used to be the Soviet headquarters in East Germany. Known as the Secret Village, the site was home to more than 75,000 Soviet troops and their families. Once a top-secret and high-security location, it is now abandoned. Among the various things left behind, the former spies discovered something that during the Cold War could have been a game-changer...
