27The Story Destiny 2 in Less Than 5 Minutes. Universe started with nothing. Enter the light and the dark. They played a game with a wager to entertain themselves. Darkness says life will highlander, light says it works together to create something new. Darkness always wins the bet by whispering in the ears of life to destroy others before they destroy you. The light responds by making the traveler. The traveler is the white ball that brings a golden age to those around it and has done so for other civilizations like the Fallen, the Hive, and the people of the Witness. When it was with the Witness’ people, they saw their own golden age, but then started experimenting with darkness on it, so it ran away, leading to their collapse. In their agony and despair they blamed the traveler for bringing them life, only to leave them to suffer. Life brings suffering. Eventually they created the darkness ships and the Witness to destroy the traveler to stop the everlasting life bringing and everlasting suffering.
In a last ditch effort to save itself and humanity during the great collapse against the darkness, the traveler uses all of its power and flings the Witness across the universe. Then releases the ghosts, who are familiars who resurrect fallen heroes infinitely with the power of the light. Which brings us to our characters, who were resurrected on earth, near the last city of humanity, below the traveler. With no memories of our past, we defend the traveler against the enemies of the light. Many of which still have the darkness whispering in their ears to destroy and take for power. The Hive follow Sword Logic to gain power through killing. The Cabal conquer for glory. The taken king revives his dead enemies as obedient zombies. And the fallen steal treasures from greed.
That brings us to now. The Witness has finally found the traveler again and cornered it. It found a way inside using the veil, a curtain between the light and dark. We now are trying to find a way to follow him inside in cooperation with odd allies from different species like the Fallen of House light, the cabal legion of empress Caital, and even the lightbearer hive of Savathun. Which is the climax of that ultimate bet of competition vs cooperation. We will hopefully find a way to stop the Witness and get answers to our burning questions for this nearly 10 year journey. What is the traveler? Who, why, the genesis of our universe. Ultimately, what happens if this decides the wager between the Light and dark?
