The Strength Within: Evaluating Lecturers' Resilience Levels
Layman Abstract: Resilience is the ability to stay strong and adaptable during change while maintaining a positive attitude. It plays a key role in how employees handle challenges and perform at work. In the wake of COVID-19, resilience has become even more important, especially for lecturers in educational leadership and management training institutes, who must adapt to constant changes.
This study explored how resilient lecturers are in a training institute in Malaysia. Researchers surveyed 200 lecturers using a questionnaire and analyzed the results using a statistical software program (SPSS). The study examined seven different areas of resilience. The findings showed that lecturers generally had a very high level of resilience, with four areas scoring very high and three scoring high. Interestingly, lecturers closer to retirement age showed significant differences in resilience levels.
One reason for this strong resilience could be the institute’s work culture, which encourages adaptability and flexibility in response to changes in the education system. However, since the future is uncertain, the study suggests that institutions should continue improving resilience, especially in areas where scores were lower. The results provide useful insights for management to take steps to further strengthen lecturers’ resilience for future challenges.
