Can you guess who developed this game? Is it Konami? Nope. Is it Capcom? Definitely not. Is it Square Enix? Nope. Is it Sega? Oh yes. It was developed by the same studio behind Virtua Fighter, Daytona USA, Shenmue and various others. Who would've thought Sega of all developers would make a Macross game? I mean Capcom developed a few Gundam games, so Sega AM2 has developed this game released on October 23rd, 2003 only in Japan. Explains why the sound effects in the menu sound like they come from Virutal-On Oratoria Tangram, you get accept as Cross and Circle and back/cancel as Square and Triangle.

Anyway, I was impressed with this game. I wonder why this game didn't see a North American or European release. Possibly due to licensing issues. The performance is a rock solid 60fps at 480i, it controls pretty well (The missiles being the most effective weapon in flying mode and the gatling gun is the most effective on ground targets and not so much during flying.) and pretty darn good music. Check this game out if you will.

In my playthrough, I made it to level P-05. Man, those bastards were so focused on killing the Macross machine before it's transformation. 'Nuff said.
