For the record, I know this is a year late, and I sincerely apologize for that. Also, there is a typo in my disclaimer. I meant to write "2018", not "2019". I guess I got myself too used to writing the latter.
Also, the description will be written from a year-old perspective.
Anyway...
2017 was yet another great year at the cinema, and these are my favorite movies of that year!

10. The Greatest Showman
Maybe I should have ranked this higher... Granted this film is a highly fictional account on the creation of the Barnum and Bailey Circus, but as long as you don't go into it expecting an accurate representation of Barnum's life, then you're in for a treat.
This movie is such a spectacular feast for the eyes and the ears. With beautiful costumes and sets, tremendous performances (especially from Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron and Zendaya) and a phenomenal soundtrack written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, how could you not fall in love with with "The Greatest Showman"?

9. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Building on the fun, action, drama and heart of its predecessor, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is another exciting entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Full of twists, surprises, laughs and, of course, some of the catchiest music ever, this colorful sequel is sure to put a smile on your face, make you gasp in surprise and you are sure to want a Baby Groot after this.

8. Coco
If there's one thing Pixar is known for (besides their insane ability to make you cry like a baby), it's their beautiful stories coupled with beautiful animation that touch of very important matters such as family, friendship and being true to yourself. "Coco" is no exception. Adding to the story and its themes and messages is an amazing soundtrack, phenomenal vocal performances and loving representations of Mexican culture and traditions.

7. Dunkirk
This was the most experimental film of the year, and I think it's safe to say that this was a very successful experiment.
Taking three fictional storylines and weaving them into the true events of May 1940 during the evacuation of Dunkirk, Christopher Nolan's masterful direction, Hans Zimmer's engrossing score and the performances from the cast (particularly Fionn Whitehead and Mark Rylance) make "Dunkirk" a powerful experience.

6. War for the Planet of the Apes
The final chapter in Caesar's story was, without a doubt, the most powerful film of the year.
Exploring themes of love, freedom, family and revenge, boasting incredible performances from Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson and Amiah Miller and featuring some of the most realistic motion-capture technology in recent years, it's impossible not to get swept up in what is one of the best trilogy cappers ever.

5. Thor: Ragnarok
Speaking of trilogy cappers, let me just say that this film, while far less dramatic than its two predecessors, is one of the best entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; not to mention Hela is a one of the best, most kick-butt villains presented by Marvel thus far.

4. Spider-Man: Homecoming
Featuring the best ever Spider-Man, Tom Holland, an incredibly villainous Michael Keaton and a story full of high-flying, web-slinging action and humor, "Homecoming", with its story of trying to balance school life with everything else (superpowered or not), is by far the most relatable chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

3. Wonder Woman
I will admit: I'm not a very big fan of the DC Extended Universe; but "Wonder Woman" absolutely blew me away. Diana Prince is now my all-time favorite superhero; and her debut cinematic solo has now become my all-time favorite superhero movie, with its high-stakes action, beautiful romance and inspiring message of how love is the greatest superpower.

2. Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Let's get something clear straight off the bat: I do not understand why the "Star Wars" fandom is divided in opinion about this movie. I'm on the side that loves it.
Reinventing and rejuvenating everything that makes the 40-year-old universe so iconic and beloved, "The Last Jedi" manages to live up to its predecessor, "The Force Awakens", in the most epic fashion possible.

1. Beauty and the Beast
This was the most beautiful film of the year! I couldn't fault anything about it if I tried. The performances from Emma Watson (especially Emma Watson), Dan Stevens and Luke Evans are incredible; the costumes, sets and visual effects are gorgeous; and all of what makes the original film so amazing is amped up in this phenomenal remake.
