The truth behind Xbox Celebrity Gamertags, and from my bootlegged research, the answer surprises me. But then again, I couldn't find too much information on them. At first, I assumed they were normal players that managed to make the gamertag first. But apparently, not all of them are people. Some of them were made so the public playerbase can't have them, but why?
It's clear that the gamertags with zero gamerscore and the generic Xbox 360 gamerpic were not at all active and were made in 2005, during the launch of the Xbox 360. But some celebrity names, even well known ones, were easily taken by other players, presumably in 2005 when the Xbox 360 launched. Ever wanted a gamertag named after your favorite celebrity? Well tough luck because they were either taken by a random player on Xbox Live in 2005, OR were made by a bored programmer so the public can't have it.
