They are here, they are here, they are finally here after a long wait! What are they? They are the three different colors of the Retro Fighters BattlerGC, designed to work with the Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo Wii U, and even the Nintendo Switch! Long delayed due to production issues associated with the global pandemic, we just got in the Spice Orange, Jet Black, and Indigo versions of the Battle GC. Come along for a first look

The BattlerGC is a re-envisioning of the Nintendo Wavebird controller. Combining aspects of that with Retro Fighters' other controllers, such as the Brawler64, the BattlerGC promises to take wireless controls for the GameCube into the next generation. Using modern 2.4GHz technology, you no longer need to select a channel for operation like you did on the Nintendo Wavebird. Instead, the transceiver in both the controller and the dongle scans the frequency band, finds an open channel, and locks on. The process is totally seamless and will allow you to use multiple controllers at the same time.

Out of the box, the BattlerGC actually feels a bit wide compared to other Retro Fighters controllers, and even the Wavebird. It does feel good in the hand, the analog triggers on the top are terrific, and the face buttons feel great too. The analog sticks are very similar to other offerings from Retro Fighters, smooth and exceptional.

From the box, you get the controller itself, a USB dongle, a GameCube dongle, and a USB-C charging cable. Retro Fighters does recommend that you charge the controller for 2 hours before initial use. Each BattlerGC features a 4-LED player indicator on them, making it easy to identify the player and controller at just a glance. Other features include a Turbo Button, Home Button for use with the Switch or Emulators, a 10-hour battery, and a 30-foot range.

When playing with an OEM Wavebird, one of the features I miss most is the rumble function. Retro Fighters is addressing this with this & confirmed these new controllers indeed feature rumble. That means you'll have full immersion in your games, and full support for all the controller features while enjoying a completely wireless experience.

If first impressions mean anything, this is an awesome controller. It is very well balanced, laid out, and just a pleasure. Make sure you hit that subscribe button as we will be doing a full-blown unboxing and review and deep dive here on the channel.
