The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is the direct sequel to Ocarina of Time and follows the same Link on another quest. After defeating Ganondorf and sealing him away, he was sent back in time by Zelda so that he could regain his lost childhood. Link then went to Zelda of that time and warned her and the royal family of Ganondorfs real plans, resulting in his arrest.
Link then set out to find Navi, the fairy, who left him as soon as they both got sent back in time, as he considered her a beloved and invaluable friend. While traveling through some unknown forest, half-dozing on horseback, Link and his horse Epona was ambushed, Link falling off his horse and getting knocked out. A Skull Kid wearing a strange, wicked mask and 2 fairies then steal his ocarina, the Ocarina of Time, and his horse Epona! Link follows them and ends up in the parallel world of Termina. Once there, the Skull Kid uses the powers of his mask to transform Link into a Deku Scrub! While escaping, one of the fairies, Tatl, gets left behind with Link, now separated from Skull Kid and her brother Tael. She half-heartedly apologizes and decides to tag along with Link so that he can help her find her brother again. Now in Termina, Link meets the Happy Mask Salesman and learns that the Moon of this world is going to crash into the planet in just 3 days and completely obliterate the world. Thus he must find and deal with the Skull Kid and stop the moon before that happens! Will Link be able to save this world in time? And will he be able to return to his true form? But also; What is Majora's Mask really, and exactly how powerful is it?
While not my first Zelda-game, Majora's Mask is my favorite, and will most likely remain so. It is an incredible game, especially considering it's extremely short development time. It has a much shorter main story than many other Zeldas, but instead has a heavy focus on characters and side quests. It is one of the most living video game world I've encountered, which is why I love it so much! It is a very dark game with heavy themes, such as death, loss, love, sadness, grief and torment, all with the end of the world as the backdrop of the stories.
