Linkages are beautiful. :)
Come vibe with me! I'd love some company and don't bite, believe me. :P https://discord.gg/uNdpFzeNeY

Corrections:
1:49 I'm saying this as if these detectors are some box that you can pick up and place down somewhere which is a very personification thing of me to do... these detectors are actually over five kilometers in length. Also, this part contains napkin math! I don't have a proper source for this and made a lot of assumptions. I don't have the calculations with me anymore given I never bothered to save it, but if someone wants to verify if this is actually true or not, let me know!!

2:49 - I have not actually checked if the Roberts linkage was actually ever implemented into the system at AIGO, or if it was just one of the methods they considered and did research on. For more information on other methods being used for performing this extreme degree of precision, you can check out LIGO's website: https://www.ligo.caltech.edu/page/vibration-isolation

4:54 - By technicality, these are not the same linkage. Note that the output P on the 2D Roberts linkage is actually in line with the grounded points, while the TMD used in Taipei 101 actually behaves more like a parallelogram linkage, with the output payload being far below the grounded points.

5:21 - Only partially true. Yes, from the inside, the payload does "sway" to help stabilize the structure, but this sway is actually a reactive behavior to the structure swaying as well. Given the mass is not rigidly connected, as the building sways, it doesn't move along with it immediately, this is what makes it appear to shift in the opposite direction for viewers. I also never mentioned this during the presentation but the "pistons" attached to the bottom of the mass are dashpots (more colloquially called "dampers"), as to prevent the TMD from channeling all of the kinetic energy it absorbs back into the building itself.

These are all the corrections I know about. If you know of any others, let me know!
