The Visual Evolution of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Video Games | 1989 - 2017
In 1984, an independent comic book hit shelves in New England that was equal parts homage and spoof of the biggest hits of the time - Daredevil, The X-Men, and the Teen Titans. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles eventually became a cultural phenomenon when they went from their violent origins to a more family friendly animated series in 1987. In 1989, the Turtles debuted on both the NES and in Arcades, and they have continued to be a part of the video game landscape ever since. This is the video game visual history of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, from their first appearance on the NES in 1989, to their appearance in Injustice 2 in 2017, and all (most) points in between.
