The WestBridge Anand Chess Academy (WACA) and its contribution to Indian chess
318The WestBridge Anand Chess Academy kicked off in January 2021 with its first sessions. It's an initiative by 5-time World Champion Vishy Anand along with the well-know investment firm WestBridge Capital to ensure that the talents of promising youngsters is taken to its right conclusion and that they become top players in the world and hopefully a few of them would also fight for the highest title in the world.
The academy began with Gukesh, Praggnanandhaa, Nihal Sarin, Raunak Sadhwani and R. Vaishali. Later on Leon Mendonca joined and then Arjun Erigaisi was also added, Recently we had the 8th WACA mentee in Savitha Shri. Vishy Anand is the chief mentor of the course and he is ably supported by his team of trainers - Yusupov, Gelfand, Gajewski and Chanda.
Although all of these youngsters have their permanent trainers, WACA helps them to get an edge in their career, which speeds up their progress.
