You can access little red's diary once you kill her and her reward is less than what Bertrams (10 vs 20 orens) and as far as if these choices may effect long term well that's a good question for I have yet to reach lvl cap/end game.
Also worth noting you get 50 exp if you help Bertram opposed to 25 exp with little red
The pay is insignificant to begin with but one will offer 20 orens vs 10 orens
