The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Part Twenty-Three| “Masks, Wakes, and Werewolves”
“When Yennefer says she needs you in private, it’s never what you hope always what you dread."
Crach an Craite summoned me and Yennefer to Kaer Trolde for King Bran’s wake. In Skellige, you don’t decline a jarl’s invitation even if it means walking into a hall thick with politics, pride, and enough mead to drown a siren. I showed my face, traded pleasantries, dodged a few sideways glances… then came the real surprise: Yen pulling me aside for a heist.
Not a romantic tryst. A break-in.
We crept into Ermion’s lab on her orders, chasing a relic called the Mask of Uroboros. A few magical defenses, a close call or two, and one stolen mask later, we were hurled back into the hall mid-toast teleported right onto the mead-soaked floor. The crowd barely blinked. Skelligers are used to storms. Even magical ones.
Afterward, Crach pulled us into a more serious discussion. We told him about Ciri what we knew, what we feared. Without hesitation, he pledged his help. All Yen wanted was access to a scorched forest warped by wild magic perhaps Ciri’s doing. Crach agreed to persuade Ermion, and we were off again, chasing another shadow of her trail.
But even when chasing destiny, side paths call. Crach’s family sword, Kuliu, had been stolen his honor wounded. I tracked the thief and retrieved the blade, earning a jarl’s rare gratitude.
And then there was the garden by Freya’s temple half-ruin, half-grave, where something twisted howled within. Morkvarg, a man turned monster, cursed for cruelty even Freya couldn’t forgive. I tried an unorthodox solution feeding him his own flesh to break the loop. It worked… somewhat. The curse lifted, but he died before reclaiming his humanity. Fitting, perhaps, for a soul that never truly had one.
The Isles are hard, their people harder still. But under all the stone and steel lies a beating heart honor, duty, and just a sliver of hope.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the groundbreaking installment in CD PROJEKT RED’s acclaimed series following the legendary witcher, Geralt of Rivia. After multiple delays, the game was officially released on May 19, 2015, and made an immediate impact. Selling over 4 million copies in just two weeks, more than doubling the total sales of its predecessor, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.
Unlike the previous entries, The Witcher 3 takes place in a sprawling multi-region open world, offering over 100 hours of content across dynamic landscapes. Inspired by the scale of games like Skyrim but over 20% larger the developers aimed to refine the open-world experience by learning from industry benchmarks while addressing their shortcomings.
Powered by the cutting-edge REDengine 3, the game was built with extensive fan feedback in mind. As always, player choices carry weight, shaping the narrative in significant and sometimes unexpected ways. This is not just a sequel. It’s a full evolution of the Witcher saga.
