➤ABOUT THE TRACK
Silius Fractured is our second instrumental and is our first cover song. I wanted to cover my all-time favorite track from the NES 8-bit Era and wanted to keep it as faithful to the original as possible- "1 to 1" as I like to describe it. The track is from the Sunsoft Game titled "Journey To Silius" which is a fairly obscure title that only really gets seen in speed-running and retro-playthroughs on YouTube and Twitch. It's a game that I owned a long time ago (but never beat because of the absurd difficulty in the end-game) and a game whose soundtrack has stayed with me ever since I first heard it way back in the day. Good games are memorable, but good soundtracks are unforgettable, and Journey To Silius has always been at the back of my mind as a "Man I'd love to cover this song one day."-type thought... and now that day has arrived after all these years. Absolutely mental to think about!
➤MY GOAL FOR THE SONG & THEMES
As I stated above, I wanted to be truthful, down to the exact BPM, to the original track from JTS while, at the same time, adding my own sounds to the track as well. Mark and I spent countless hours writing and rewriting parts of the song to make it clear that, while it is a direct cover of the Stage 1 Theme from JTS, we also had our hands in writing some original music to the song as well. During the writing process, I had been working with one multi-tiered goal in mind: "Part A" should be as exact as possible to the official track, "Part B" would be "our" version if someone had asked me to cover the song but to use our own Word Of Lawder flavor, and "Part C" would be a combination of the original composition mixed in with our own original parts to culminate in a fantastic ending to the song. The result is the track you are about to hear today. Mark did an outstanding job putting together my ideas along with his incredible musical talent and Chris was there every step of the way to make sure the sound was as crisp and as clean as possible and I couldn't be more happy with the results.
PS - There is another game's melody that we use in this track that I'm keeping a secret for now (which I'll reveal at a later time). Can you identify the game it's from? Post in the comments below if you think you know the answer!
