This is Tonney, he has the world’s first ‘above-the-elbow’ bionic arm where each finger can be controlled by his mind. 🖐️

People with above-elbow amputations have less remaining muscle to control prosthetic limbs and produce fine motor movements. However, researchers at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, have used surgically implanted sensors that – together with AI – help amputees improve their control.

This new technology provides new hope and opportunities for people with amputations all over the world. 🌍

How does it work? 💡
Sensors have been implanted into the muscles. The peripheral nerves from above the elbow have been reconnected to new muscle targets. AI technology translates the muscle signals so that Tonney can control the arm and fingers in a natural way.
