The 228.31-carat extraordinary diamond The Rock, which was put up for sale at the Magnificent Jewels Auction organized by Christie's Auction at the Four Season Hotel des Bergues in Geneva, Switzerland, found a buyer for 18 million 767 thousand 214 dollars (287 million TL).
It was announced that, together with the sales commissions that Christie's Auction House will receive, the diamond cost the buyer $ 21 million 895 thousand 121.
Max Fawcett, Head of the Jewelry Division at Christie's Geneva, who led the auction, described the pear-shaped and perfectly symmetrical The Rock as "one of the rarest jewels ever put up for auction."
At the Magnificent Jewels auction, the most outstanding jewels from the most famous jewelery houses such as Harry Winston, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, from the historical and modern periods, were offered for sale, while The Rock diamond stood out as the most valuable piece of the auction.
The Rock, a pear-shaped diamond produced by the world-renowned French jewelery company Cartier, has perfect polish and symmetry.
Weighing 61.3 grams, dimensions of 5.4 x 3.1 centimeters, The Rock is in G color and VS1 clarity.
The diamond also has a report by the Gemology Institute of America that states it is the "largest pear-shaped diamond available in the D to Z color range."
450 MILLION LIRA WAS EXPECTED
Max Fawcett said in his statements before the auction that "The Rock" is expected to sell for $30 million (approximately 450 million lira).
