The Xbox Series X/S controller will feature a new version, which will follow in the footsteps of the PS5 DualSense
Xbox boss Phil Spencer said Microsoft is working to update the Xbox Series X/S controller, following in the footsteps of the PS5 DualSense
Microsoft played it safe when it come to the design of the Xbox Series X/S controller, that's something very few could deny. The current Xbox controller is a reflection of its predecessor with some small additions. However, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, has confirmed that the company will update its controller in the future after doing several surveys on the PS5 DualSense. In fact, the executive has already indicated that he likes the work that Sony did.
On a recent episode of Kinda Funny Gamescast,Spencer said,"We're definitely thinking about different types of devices that can bring more games to more places. There will probably be some work we will do at the helm. I think Sony has done a good job with its controller, like we look at some of that [and we think] 'Are there things we should be doing?'.
But don't expect Xbox to step into VR.
No wonder Microsoft is considering the idea of improving its Xbox Series X/S controller as the answer to DualSense. In January, the tech giant sent out a survey to owners of its ninth-generation consoles asking if they'd like to see any DualSense feature on an Xbox controller.
The company is planning to bring the Xbox experience to smart TVs and streaming, though it reaffirms that Xbox hardware will remain a "flagship experience," and Spencer hints that while there won't be a renewal of Xbox hardware anytime soon, a roadmap for future models isn't ruled out. For now, we know that Microsoft is working on a new version of the controller.
