Here's a logo history on a channel that isn't that well-known by members of the logo community, but is definitely recognized by movie fans in Southern California. This logo history is also done in a similar style to TR3X's style in 2022, primarily because it's better than guessing what a certain ident was from if you don't know when it started and stopped. I tried to make it as different as possible by using different fonts (Roboto and ITC Avant Garde, for example) so that I'm not copying. I won't use this style in every logo history, so this is just temporary.

This is also one of the first ident histories of Z Channel. Hope you guys like it.

The Z Channel was a cable television channel that operated in the Los Angeles area starting in 1974. It is widely regarded as one of the first premium cable channels in the United States and played a significant role in shaping the landscape of film culture during its existence. It was even the subject of a 2004 documentary, featuring interviews from movie makers such as Quentin Tarantino.

Jerry Harvey became the program director in 1980 and picked a wide-ranging choice of movies to air, and on Christmas Eve 1982, he made the decision to show the original (previously unreleased in two years) version of Heaven's Gate (1980), the most watched feature ever shown on Z Channel.

Z Channel faced financial problems in its later years, and Harvey died by turning a gun on himself after using it on his wife. There was an addition of sports to regular programming, which was successful at first, until a lawsuit ensued with a court ruling that contracts with the movie studios stipulated that the service be commercial-free.

Out of options, Z Channel was sold to Cablevision and NBC on 16th March 1989, fading to black later on 29th June, with My Darling Clementine (1946) being the final film aired on the network.

My next video will be a logo history on TV Aratu.
