They Hunger episode 1: Let's play the best solo mod for Half Life!
People of Earth!
This week, we're starting something a little bit different.
Following the release of Half Life 25th anniversary edition (check out the video Valve made about the game development here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbZ3HzvFEto), I got the original Half Life on Steam, and found how to run They Hunger through Steam as well.
So, for the next couple weeks, we're gonna play the entirety of They Hunger.
What's They Hunger?
It's probably the very best single player mod for the original Half Life. And I'm counting Valves Opposing Force in there.
They Hunger is a horror/survival game, in the vein of the Biohazard/Resident Evil games from Capcom, using the first person architecture of Half-Life.
The mod was released through PC Gamer at the time, and was also available for download on the website of the developer, Black Widow games, even though at the time it took hours to download it with our slow AF modems (these were the times of 256 and 512k modems, far from the current DSL/fiber dowload speeds).
The story is fairly simple: you play as mister Unnamed Protagonist, a writer going to Small Town, America, for inspiration. After a freak accident, you are left to your own devices in the countryside, your car destroyed, and need to make your way to the city.
Trouble is, due to a "strange atmospheric phenomena", the dead are coming back to life, and attacking the living...
Your only chance for survival is to reach the city and call for the help of the State Police.
The game was released in 3 installments (episodes) in 2000 and 2001, and was created by Neil Manke.
Also, on top of that, small update on the channel: As another project is getting some legs, I'm finding myself having less and less time for videos.
So, the Fallout 2 videos, which have stopped for a while, are unlikely to restart. This is in part because the end of the game is pretty tedious, to be honest.
The very last mission of Warhammer 40k Battlesector is also unlikely to see the light of day, but I might revisit the game for small skirmishes or battles with other factions.
I will try to keep the Sunday videos going, but considering SnowRunner is close to be finished, I'll need to get myself a couple of games that aren't too stressful to play.
So that's about it for now, enjoy the first part of They Hunger, it's a long one!
