They Nailed the Feel of a Souls Game - Lies of P demo, pt.1 (2023-06-08)
I was initially pretty lukewarm on Lies of P, only thinking it might be fun to play as a lark after having such a loathsome experience with Bloodborne, and that this Bloodborne-looking game would be first to get a PC port.
Tical (an oldschool Souls vet and member of the community) pointed out that Lies of P recently released a demo, and the timing was perfect.
It turns out that this game is kind of amazing - by far the most true to From's overall feel and pacing while still keeping their own style. You can tell they did their homework and really understood the assignment - whether it's attack animations and how enemies react to impacts, character dialogue tone and pacing, etc. Some of the mechanics like their take on Bloodborne's "rally" system are outright better in Lies of P, and the game also has some UX improvements over anything From has done, like allowing the player to adjust lock-on behavior (distance/angle sensitivity, whether R3 will snap your camera forward when failing to find a target, etc.).
