Megaman X (or Rockman X in Japan) is the successor to the original Megaman game series developed by Capcom for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Megaman X was released in 1993 in Japan and 1994 in Europe and North America. The game takes place 100 years after the events of the original Megaman series in a world populated by humans and reploids, intelligent robots replicated after Dr. Light's project "X" which was unearthed by Dr. Cain. Though humans and reploids lived in peace for a time, many reploids began to question their subservient role to humans and began attacking them as a result, going maverick. X works alongside a league of Maverick Hunters to eliminate maverick reploids and minimize the damage they can cause. With the help of his partner Zero, X aims to become strong enough to take out the ex maverick hunter Sigma, and stop his plans for human extinction.
