MASTER SYSTEM - VDB
- ObjToParticle bring 'teapot' into tP
- teapot into the VDB group (use R-menu)
- instance shape
- Re-name sets to stay organized : VDB I/O
- Click Create in 3dsMax-tP menu and select OpenVDB
- note that with the latest Drop 8, we have made it so that each particle is able to record and carry over its own grid data - a powerful feature. So, the artist job is to control the data and use it.
OPEN VDB FIELDS
the thinkingParticles VDB Fields include:
Distance
Fog
Scalar
Position
Velocity
Vector
Color
VData
Mask
You can ADD Fields as needed for your effects.
Set frame to Film rate; Start frame 1000
Best practice of organizing a Subset in Dynamic goes a long way in preventing mixed up as it gets more complex.
SHAPE TO VOLUME
Create OpenVDB SDF (Signed Field Distance) ShapeToVolume
** Shape into Volume activates each particles to store its own grid volume data and all of that data now exists within the Open VDB Container in your Dynamic Set.
Select Distance field - Generate
SHOW VDB - PGroup -- VDB -- Grid: Distance. See a Bonding Box appear which tells you that there is now data info. You can also now see the particles in the teapot and Adjust the left - Right - Vector values in Show VDB to see how it changes. To correct the part where the particles are not showing at the teapot spout because it is not a close geometry at that part - use MODIFIER - Cap holes and back to thinkingParticles and you see the particle data shows up at the spout.
Exterior option when you change the Right value, you can adjust the teapot exterior 'spike' color.
GENERATING A MESH FROM VOLUME DATA
You do this from ShapeToVolumeVDB wire to VolumeToShapeVDB.
So, again, OpenVDB-- Volume PGroup / vdb -- Distance field / Distance. And you now see the meshed teapot. Back to ShapeToVolume and fine-tune the VOXEL size of the teapot as you like it.
