This technique is the bread and butter of watercolors. This IS what makes watercolor painting unique.
I like saying there's 2 types because the paper is in 2 different states.
1. The paper is pre wet with no additional paint.
2. The paper is dry BUT a was has been laid down and that section is now wet.
There is very little control we have after the paint is on the wet surface, but with time we learn to guide it but we can never achieve 100% control over water and gravity.
