There a huge difference between how Rogue One and the Original Trilogy portrays the rebellion. Even though both of these entries talk about the same time period within Star Wars history, Rogue One has a far more gritty and realistic tone to it. The Rebels have to be careful, they take heavy losses, make huge sacrifices for oftentimes minuscule gain. To me shows like Rogue One and Andor do a great job at not romanticizing warfare and acts of rebellion.
