Tranzit was BAD. In fact it is almost undeniably the worst zombies map ever created. But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t fun. Some of the most innovative features and best experiences a lot of us had growing up were on this map. That being said, it was just objectively bad.

Zombies now is a lot different. It’s been extremely gamified. if you played a lot of those older zombie maps, it’s quite jarring to now start zombie maps with and assault rifle and have a health bar above zombies heads. And all of this wide open space to run around in. My point being. zombies whether it’s for better or for worse. Probably won’t ever be the same again.

Yet admittedly we as a community had about out grown that formula. As hard as that is to admit. There was no where else really for the developers to move in that space. The last few attempts at real traditional zombies in bo3 were largely perfect.

There was proven formula that worked. And it’s clear the developers wanted to try something new. But zombies wasn’t always like that.

a large portion of black ops 1 was spend figuring out how this gamemode should actually work. Kino was the first map and that was nothing short of ICONIC but also quite easy. Especially when compared to the other launch map 5 that had very narrow pathways and was considered quite difficult. Then ascension released as part of the first dlc and again, although that map was nothing short of iconic. It was even easier than kino. In a direct response to this the next two maps, call of the dead and Shanghai la were extremely difficult and either gave the player no room to train or lots of room but made those areas frozen lakes. Moon was the last map to release for black ops 1 and was a great indication of the ambitions treyarch would have for their next iteration of zombies. It was their biggest map to date with multiple playable areas that required a teleporter, and it had perhaps the greatest ending to an Easter egg ever in blowing up the earth. Which would perfectly lead in to the events of black ops 2s next map: tranzit

Now to put it short this map was far too ambitious for what they could actually achieve on that generation of consoles. And it’s evident that there was a vision there that treyarch, unfortunately never got to fully realise. Upon the making of this video I went back to go and play on this map. Now I have a lot of nostalgia for it and, admittedly a lot of fun memories. Not only on the entire map of tranzit but playing in the little areas of each map. (Diner, bus stop, town, farm and power).
