Time-Lost Lore Artifacts in Dragonflight - Important Items from Azeroth's Past
DRAGONFLIGHT POSTED 1 DAY AGO BY DISCORDIANKITTY
Thaldraszus is the zone that the Bronze Dragonflight chose for their home - leading, unsurprisingly, to strange things happening with time. We take a look at one of the incidents that takes place during the zone's main questline.
WARNING: DRAGONFLIGHT STORY SPOILERS AHEAD!
Table of Contents
The Time-Lost Compass - Varian's/Anduin's Compass
Time-Lost Amulet - Heart of Azeroth
Time-Lost Aegis - Aegis of Aggramar
Time-Lost Scroll - Lorewalker Scroll
Time-Lost Cup - Chalice of Rebirth
In the main questline for Thaldraszus, during the chapter Time Management, we help the Bronze Dragonflight with time anomalies that have been leaking out all around their temple. This includes dealing with creatures and enemies like Time-Lost Murlocs and Arakkoa, closing time portals, and containing rare and powerful artifacts that disrupt the timeways.
Bronze Warder says: The presence of these artifacts threatens our timeline!
Bronze Warder says: We barely had this artifact contained!
We noticed each artifact has recognizably played an important part in World of Warcraft's history:
The Time-Lost Compass - Varian's/Anduin's Compass
The Time-Lost Compass is very clearly the compass that Anduin gave his father, King Varian, as a birthday gift a few months before the discovery of Pandaria. Varian treasured the gift, which contains a small portrait of Anduin in the lid. After Varian died, Alliance players found the compass on the Broken Shore and brought it back to Anduin in the memorable quest A Found Memento. In Shadowlands, when Anduin was dominated by the Jailer, he managed to drop the compass before following Zovaal into Zereth Mortis, leaving behind a message for his friends.
Time-Lost Amulet - Heart of Azeroth
The Time-Lost Amulet bears a resemblance to the Heart of Azeroth. A major focus of Battle for Azeroth, this medallion was gifted to players by Azeroth herself, and was used to both empower players and help heal Azeroth's wounds. The Heart of Azeroth also has a direct history with the Dragonflights, as it's empowered by the Dragonflights during the questline Empowering the Heart, added in the patch Rise of Azshara.
Time-Lost Aegis - Aegis of Aggramar
The Time-Lost Aegis looks like the Aegis of Aggramar, one of the five Pillars of Creation that were used in the fight against the Legion. These ancient artifacts were gifted to the Titan-Keepers long ago by the Pantheon themselves, and obtaining them was a major subject of the opening questlines of Legion, in the same way that each Dragon Aspect's Oathstone will play a major role in Dragonflight. The Aegis of Aggramar was found in the possession of Odyn, who allowed players to take it after proving their Valor. In 9.1.5, a Replica Aegis of Aggramar was added to the game for transmog.
Time-Lost Scroll - Lorewalker Scroll
The Time-Lost Scroll looks very similar to the various lore scrolls found throughout Mists of Pandaria. These collectibles could be read - each told a story from Pandaria's history - as well as turned in to The Lorewalkers faction for reputation. More importantly, Lorewalker Cho would reenact each story as it was turned in - it was a wonderful way to learn lore in-game!
Time-Lost Cup - Chalice of Rebirth
Finally, the Time-Lost Cup may not look like much, but it resembles the Chalice of Rebirth - an artifact that played one of the most important roles in World of Warcraft's history. When the Orcs of Draenor drank the blood of the demon Pit-Lord Mannoroth - corrupting them, turning their skin green, and cursing them with insatiable bloodlust - it was this cup that they drank from. We have also seen an alternative timeline version of this cup before - in Warlords of Draenor. In that reality, the orcs were warned against drinking the blood by our reality's Garrosh Hellscream - and Grommash Hellscream knocked the cup out of Gul'dan's hands instead.
