Welcome to SPEED WEEK! Everyday for the entire week I will be uploading a speedrun of a different level from GTFO's Rundown 3!

All videos in SPEED WEEK have been lovingly edited to include easy to follow onscreen graphics following the current and future objectives needing to be completed in the run, so even without any knowledge of the level, you can still follow along!

Today we break the law! The law of TIME! Our previous REACTOR level Speedrun, R2D2 used a Tool to Assist in brute forcing the 10 passwords required in order to achieve a much faster than humanly possible Speedrun [TAS]. Well the Devs took one good look at that and put a cooldown between incorrect passwords, effectively removing the strategy. But we have adapted, if brute forcing all the passwords won't work, we'll just have to get the passwords!

Q: What is happening in the speedrun? and how was it achieved?
A: To explain. RNG in GTFO is what makes its fresh and interesting to play through over and over. The only things that are random are; where enemies are, where loot is, what consumables you get from that loot, where security scans are, and where the objectives are [Terminals, Keys, HSUs, etc]

Each time you load up a level, the level gets an SEED associated with it. It is somewhat common in lots of games. The Seed in GTFO predetermines storage locations, loot inside those storage containers, the position of the security scans and most importantly the Objective locations.

The run you witnessed, we predetermined the seed we were playing on, Allowing us to play through the level once normally, and learn all the locations of lockers, resources and most importantly for this run, PASSWORDS. Reload the exact same Seed, effectively brings back all that knowledge, and allows us to know the passwords ahead of time and effectively input them has quick and humanly possible.

Q: Is this run possible?
A: In actuality, Yes!! This speedrun could be done 100% legitimately, However! It would require both a lot of attempts, and recording the details of each and every attempt, until the day where you get a repeat.

How I would go about this would be to create a spreadsheet, write down the first security door number [Zone 429], the reactor terminal number, and the first terminal password number (as well as all the passwords in the run)
This way on a repeat run, you could quickly match the starting numbers, and know which seed you are currently on, and thus input the passwords.
However the chances of this happening are extremely low, but not 0%.

Q: Can I have the tool that made this possible?
A: Simple answer. No, Having a tool like this out in the public domain would greatly hurt the community of this already niche game.

Q: Since you can personally Seed a speedrun, how can we know if your previous speedruns are Seeded or Unseeded.

A: The short answer is there isn't a way to prove a run is seeded or unseeded. In hopes of keeping trust with those who watch these runs and those within the GTFO Speedrunning community, I decided it was best to reveal the use of the tool, and address it here.

I hope that you'll believe me when I say that this run [R3A3] is the only run that uses the Seeding Tool, everything else has been grinded for hours upon days in order to achieve an extremely good speedrun.

If a future run uses the seeding tool, I will make a very clear indicator that it is being used.

Q: In regards to speedrunning, wouldn't it be ideal to have this tool out there so people could vastly improve upon the speedrun times, having to rely less on RNG, and focus more on finding ideal seeds and improving upon that?

A: It's a sound argument to make, a lot of people despise having to grind through RNG in order to just get a single good attempt. Disregarding the issues with the tool being made public, if the speedrunning community wants to talk and discuss the normalization of the tool, we'd have to have a lengthy conversation about how to make sure its used correctly and not abused.

The current Speedrun World Record is held by our friends Hunterman, Peace, Apex and Goose, and can be found here:
